New Year's Realisations

Compliments of the new season! And what a season it is. The start of a new year brims with hope and determination. Each year we say, "This will be my year" or "I’m going to make things happen this year," and sadly, we don’t follow through. If we are so determined at the beginning of the year, why do we falter so quickly and give up all our hopes and plans for the year? The simplest answer is that our desires don’t match our inner beliefs.
If you don’t truly believe in living a healthy lifestyle, you won’t adopt habits that stick and carry you to the next year. If you don’t believe in accountability, you won’t make the hard choices necessary to hold yourself and those around you accountable.
Without a shift in perspective, we won’t maintain anything new for long. So maybe instead of resolutions we need realisations.
But how do we go about facilitating these internal shifts? And more importantly, how do we know if we’ve done it? Well, let’s turn to the "greats" to help us figure it out.
Oprah Winfrey says, "The energy of your intention is what guides your life." understanding that every action or thought we have is motivated by an intention, and "that intention is a cause that exists as one with an effect." So, maybe it's time to consider your 'why'. Why do you want to do the things you claim you want to do? Understanding your "why" is how you facilitate your shift.
Simon Sinek, the best-selling author of "Start with Why," explains the importance of unearthing core drivers. He explains that we often start from the outside in when, in actual fact, the inside-out approach is not only the most effective but also the most authentic. Starting with "why" is the best way to determine the "how" and, finally, the "what." This concept is illustrated by the Golden Circle.
Deepak Chopra says, "Simply with a change of mind, you can change your life." Changing your mind and changing what we believe to be true is how we change our behaviour. When you believe you deserve more from life and understand that you are responsible for giving yourself more, then your actions start to reflect this shift in mentality.
So how do you know if the shift has happened? when you start to shed. When you start shedding old habits that no longer serve you or the person you want to be. when you shed relationships that no longer bring out the best in you. When you shed limiting thoughts and see your life begin to shape up to mirror the person you are becoming,
Perhaps now is a good time to ask, what are your new year’s realisations, and how will they drive you to become the person you cannot stop thinking about?
