Winter Movie Marathon: feel good movies about hair

Cold seasons were made for cuddling up in front of the tv with a blanket, hot chocolate and a feel-good movie. Do you agree? In this article, we have compiled a list of movies you can snuggle up to under a blankie and enjoy alone or better yet, watch with company.

1. Barbershop (2002) + Barbershop 2 (2004)

If you’re into funny, family-oriented movies then Barber Shop 1 + 2 are just for you! Ice Cube and Queen Latifah star in this comedy sequel that tells the story of how important the barbershop is to a young man’s upbringing and community. In the second movie, we see how our barbershop competes with the chain salon that opens up across the street. With a star-studded cast, Barbershop 1 & 2 are great feel good movies.

2. Good Hair (2009)

Chris Rock documents the lineage of women and their hair obsessions. The film focuses on the issue of how Black-American women have perceived their hair and historically styled it. It’s funny and also leaves you with something to think about.

3. Nappily Ever After (2018)

Sanaa Lathan takes you through a journey of self-rejection, acceptance and finally, self-love. A soulful barber helps her pick up the pieces of her life after an accident at her hair salon makes her realise that she isn't living her life to the fullest. If you are going through your own self-image journey, this is a good watch!

4. Barbershop: The Next Cut (2016)

The gang is back and this time, we have new faces! Now that Calvin and Angie merged the barbershop and salon due to financial difficulties, the real challenge they face is the growing crime, but together they devise a plan to save the neighbourhood.

5. Hairspray (2007)

Hairspray is a 2007 musical romantic comedy film based on the 2002 Broadway musical also called ‘Hairspray’ originally based on John Waters's 1988 comedy film, HairSpray. Set in 1962 Baltimore, Maryland, the film follows the "pleasantly plump" teenager Tracy Turnblad (Blonsky) as she pursues stardom as a dancer on a local television dance show and rallies against racial segregation.

And there you have it! Time to snuggle up and enjoy some feel good entertainment!

Love MPL.
