Is your hair ready to spring back to warm weather?

Spring here so you already know what that means - yes, yes, another hair regime switch-up. But this time, it’s for warm weather which is so much more gentle on your hair and doesn’t strip it of moisture.

So how can you set up your hair to spring back into action after months of protective styling? Here are a few tips:

1. Start spring with a trim.

Out with the old and in with the new, that’s the theme of the season so don’t carry deadweight on your hair. Kick things off with a rejuvenating trim to your tresses. Hair grows faster in summer anyway to make way with a trim this spring.

2. Protect your hair.

According to dermatologist Wilma Bergfeld, MD, if your hair has prolonged exposure to the sun, UVA and UVB rays can damage the cuticle - the outside cover of the hair strand. Sun damage is known to manifest in many different ways including discoloration, dryness or and brittle, broken or split ends. Make a daily habit of applying a hair care product that contains UV filters. You can choose between a spray, gel, or cream. These products protect hair while keeping colour-processed hair from fading. Since no one spends spring away from the sun, take a wide-brimmed hat along. Make fun under the sun, safe.

3. Cleanse from chlorine.

It's also a good idea to rinse your hair after a swim to rid it of chlorine that may be lingering. If there isn't a shower nearby, keep a spray bottle filled with fresh water just to dilute the chemicals. Alternatively you can deep condition your hair prior to a swim just to lessen how much moisture is stripped away.

4. Keep the heat on a minimum.

This is an age-old rule that will never change; heat strips hair of moisture so keep it on the low. At least once or twice a week is enough. We all love a good blow out or wavy curls but taking breaks is super important especially when the sun is already bringing the heat. Perhaps wash your hair at night and then twist, braid or stretch it out in a ponytail before heading off to bed. When you wake up, you'll have a nice beachy wave or a semi-straightened vibe. Either way, your hair will be clean and styled without heart. You can’t lose.

5. Switch to a moisturising shampoo and conditioner.

You may be washing your hair more frequently to deal with summer's sweat and grime. Using a clarifying shampoo, like MPL Charcoal Purifying Shampoo once a week is a great way to clear away product buildup and chemicals. Make sure to follow with the MPL Charcoal Conditioner to keep your hair moisturised and soft.

And that’s it! Here’s to springing back into gorgeous weather with gorgeous hair!

Love MPL.
