How to Keep Moisture In and Breakage Out All Week

Wash day is important, but what happens after wash day often determines how healthy your hair actually stays.

Many people focus on getting their hair perfectly moisturised on wash day, only for it to feel dry a few days later. This isn’t unusual. Moisture naturally escapes over time, especially with textured hair. So you have one job that week: retain moisture.

Moisture begins with water. Products support moisture, but water is what hydrates the strand.

When your hair begins to feel dry midweek, lightly misting with water or applying a water-based moisturiser helps restore hydration. From there, a small amount of oil helps seal that moisture in and reduce friction between strands.

Oils like MPL Olive Hair Oil or MPL Hair Treatment 5 Oils work well for this purpose, helping to maintain softness without weighing the hair down.

Every time hair is combed, brushed, or restyled, it experiences stress. Over time, that stress can lead to breakage, especially at the ends. Choosing styles that last several days, like twists, braids, or simple updos, allows your hair to rest while still looking good. The less your hair is handled unnecessarily, the better it retains both moisture and strength.

Low manipulation is one of the most underrated forms of hair care.

Night-time friction is a silent killer, which is why switching from cotton to satin is so key. Cotton pillowcases absorb moisture and create friction as you move during sleep. A satin bonnet or scarf helps preserve moisture and prevents strands from rubbing against rough surfaces. It also helps maintain your style so you don’t have to redo it every morning. Imagine caring for your hair so attentively when you’re awake, only for it to break in your sleep?

And lastly, caring for your ends. Your ends are the oldest part of your hair and the most vulnerable to dryness and splitting. Applying a small amount of oil to the ends during the week can help reduce dryness and protect them from friction. This little hack makes a noticeable difference in breakage over time.

Healthy hair is as much about retention as it is about growth. So by moisturising adequately, styling sparingly, and protecting while asleep, you can really avoid unnecessary damage. To moist healthy hair!
