DIY Hair Masks

Winter is around the corner and we can feel it with the coolness of the morning breeze. Cooler conditions means less moisture in the air for our hair and this can really strip our hair of it’s natural moisture and shine. Thankfully, we have DIY hair masks for you to restore everything Winter tries to take!

If you have brittle, dry or unhappy hair, here are a few masks you can try at home today:

1. Moisturising Coconut Oil Hair Mask

Ingredients: 1 Banana + 1 Avocado + 2 Tbsp Coconut Oil

If you can’t bake then you’ve probably been throwing away overripe bananas that could have been used for a moisturising hair mask! Bananas are high in potassium and natural oils which help soften hair and protect its elasticity. Avocados are rich in vitamin B, which is known to promote hair growth as well as improve your hair’s strength. Coconut oil really elevates this mask as it acts as a great sealant. Keeping moisture sealed in your hair.

2. Deep Cleaning Mask

Ingredients: 1/2 cup of plain yogurt + 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar & 1 tablespoon of lemon juice + diluted with 2 tablespoons of water

Have you had a protective style for quite some time and really need to deep clean your hair to remove the product build-up? Well this is the mask for you. Lemon and apple cider vinegar act as an astringent to wash away excess oil, while the zinc and lactic acids in yogurt have moisturising properties.

3. Moisturising Coconut Oil + Jojoba Oil Hair Mask

Ingredients: 2 Tbsp organic virgin coconut oil + 1 Tbsp jojoba oil & 3-5 drops of an essential oil of your choice

Coconut oil is ‘miracle’ oil to many people and it makes sense when you hear about all the benefits packed in it. Coconut oil is an excellent moisture sealant and jojoba oil is excellent hydrating oil. You can add whatever essential oil you choose but peppermint essential oil is an anti-inflammatory oil that soothes your scalp and reduces itching. This mask is a moisturising mask and it smells amazing.

4. Growth Castor Oil Hair Mask

Ingredients: 1.5 teaspoon of castor oil

Castor oil is known for moisturising hair and scalp, stimulating hair growth and thickening hair. This mask is great and very easy because it just needs one ingredient and a little heat to melt it. Castor oil is rich in fatty acids that moisturise and has antimicrobial properties that make it a worthy treatment for dry scalp and dandruff. After 45 minutes to an hour or so, shampoo your hair to get rid of the smell. But you will come out with soft hair and great shine.

5. Super Duper Egg & Mayonnaise Hair Mask

Ingredients: 1 Egg, 2 Tbsp Mayonnaise, 1 Tbsp Olive Oil, 1 Tbsp Honey

There are so many things in your kitchen that can be used to make amazing masks, like mayo, eggs and olive oil! Mayo works wonders at adding shine to your hair because of its oil content. Eggs help restore proteins and vitamins to your hair. Olive oil adds softness and strengthens hair and honey, well honey has both emollient and humectant properties, making it a great hair moisturiser! This mask is the ultimate nourishing mask with amazing ingredients and even better benefits. A must try!
