Three Moisture-Retention Hacks for Wash Days

Wash day is where most routines are set up to win, and if not, then midweek rescue missions kick off to try and save the day. If you don’t have a moisture-locking routine on lock that actually works, then you’re in luck because we have three hacks to help you out!

The good news? You don’t need more time or more products. In this article, we have three moisture-retention hacks for wash days

So, let’s kick off.

Hack 1: Stop rushing the “after wash” window

What you do in the first 10 minutes after washing your hair matters more than anything you do later.

This is when hair is most receptive to moisture. The scalp is clean, the strands are hydrated, and everything applied has a better chance of doing its job. And this is exactly where most people miss. You see, many lose out on this very perfect window because they keep their hair wrapped in a towel for too long. By the time they decide to attend to their hair, it’s half-dry, the cuticles have closed, and the golden moment has passed because once your hair starts drying, you’ve already lost some of that moisture.

Fixing this is easy, in fact, it's a no-brainer: attend to your damp hair immediately after your wash. This is thee moment for your leave-in conditioner to show up and show off! Now, the next hack is where intentionality comes in.

Hack 2: You don’t just apply a product, you have to work it in.

Instead of applying your leave-in conditioner or water-based cream moisturiser or MPL Fermented Rice Water onto your hair, apply it into it instead. Section your hair, work the product into your scalp, to your roots and work your way to the tips. Once you’ve worked through all your sections and you’re satisfied with your laying, now you make it all count by completing the final step.

Hack 3: Let your hair sit and soak it up

Once your products are in, let them settle. Instead of immediately moving to styling, brushing, or pulling the hair into place, give your hair a moment to just absorb the moisture and settle for a moment.

The easiest way to do this is to twist or braid your hair in sections after applying your products. Not for style,  just to hold everything in place while your hair absorbs what it needs.

And that’s it! Easy, repeatable hacks to elevate your wash days.
