Natural Remedies for Healthy Hair

by Lenyx Rose

As we are living in a global crisis it becomes difficult to find hair essentials since the government considers beauty supply shops and hair salons non-essential businesses. I've been wearing box braids for over two months and today I decided to let my natural hair breathe. It's a tough decision to make during a pandemic because depending on the length of your tresses, you're back in the routine of twist outs, Bantu knots, LOC methods, stretch methods, and all the tricks and fancies that come with caring for Black hair.

Since the grocery store is currently the only place in my area that's open for business, I intentionally buy produce that also supports hair sustainability. I've always been a fan of essential oils, herbs, and foods that provide major benefits to our body. Buying teas and fresh herbs such as lavender, burdock, peppermint, aloe vera, etc. will do wonders for your overall well-being including your hair! Lavender clears up any fungus or parasites attached to your scalp and follicles. Peppermint not only gives your scalp a soothing sensation but similar to aloe vera it serves as a moisturizer. Burdock contains fatty acids and phytosterol compounds that reverse hair loss and generate new growth.

Considering that we must keep our throats coated with hot liquid due to COVID 19, take these herbs as teas so it can work its magic on the inside. Fruits are also the tastiest solution to healthy hair. Mangos, avocados, berries, etc. strengthen the capillaries of the hair shaft and provide antioxidants that protect your hair from dangerous free radicals. So indulge in your herbs and berries. Use your local supermarket to heal you from within!
