1. Choose the right products for your hair
The natural curl makes it difficult for products to travel to the roots. This makes hair susceptible to breakage and knots. The main challenges with natural hair are dealing with breakage and finding the perfect moisturiser that isn’t too greasy and will moisture your scalp as well. Products with natural oils in them such as Shea oil/butter, Moroccan, argon or jojoba oil, which are known to be great additions to your hair regime. Our MPL SURE2GRO Hair Oil is infused with Jojoba oil and menthol. Formulated to encourage hair growth.
2. Comb it the right way
Having curly hair means dealing with knots and tangles from root to tip at times. And that’s the nightmare combing your hair all the way through is meant to placate.
Knots are caused by product build-up in the hair or double curls (hair that curls twice and knots itself), which causes hair breakage when combed – if the hair is not handled gently. The trick is to avoid combing or brushing your hair from the roots. Brush from the middle then work your way up.
By gently running your fingers through your hair before brushing or combing it, you help eliminate big knots without breaking your hair. Section your hair, which means separating it into small sections, and comb with a wide-tooth comb. After combing your whole head, comb your hair together, tie it and wrap it in a scarf to prevent it from tangling while you sleep.
3. Pump up the Volume
What’s the point of natural hair if not volume? Sleeping usually leaves your hair flat so never sleep with hair that hasn’t been braided or twisted (depending on your hair’s length) Every evening, divide your hair into four sections (more if your hair is short) and braid those sections. This will help keep your hair’s volume and keep it from getting tangled and hard to comb.
Water is our friend! Spot shying away from water. Our natural hair oils take longer to travel through curly hair, so spray from water directly to your hair and keep it moisturised. MPL’s Hair Oil original is formulated with lanolin and glycerine to help improve the overall health of your hair while providing extra moisture and conditioning to the hair. Rub it into your hair for 2-3 minutes before combing.
5. Wrap it up
Wrap your hair in a satin scarf or head wrap when you go to bed to help keep in the nutrients and help avoid hair breakage.
Here’s to less breakage and more volume.
