It is officially that time to get our summer bodies on! For the overachieving few who got their headstart during winter, kudos! But, to the rest of us who where barely making it out of our blankies through what felt like the longest winter ever, what do we do? Where do we start? At MPL we care about your hair's wellness but most of all we care about your wholistic wellness.
We realise that everyone has a lot of things to do, and it can be difficult to fit health and fitness in, especially if it’s a already a bit of an intimidating lifestyle for you. Before we go anywhere, it’s important to note that diet is the most imperative factor when it comes to health and fitness. So here are some simple things to remember and try implement or change into your diet.
Start the day with a glass of hot water and lemon
This is the best way to wake your digestive system up and maintain a pH balance of the body. Hot lemon water acts as a detoxifying agent, so it’s best to drink your glass on en empty stomach. It also helps with fighting the common cold so if that change of season cold wants to grip you, this is definitely one of the ways to combat it.
Try going dairy-free.
Surprisingly, dairy has been proven to be linked to heart disease and the not so good source of calcium that is good for our bones like we’ve been taught. It is actually full of saturated fat and causes digestive problems for 75% of people who are lactose intolerant.
So try to avoid cow’s milk and yoghurt for breakfast. Opt for cereal that can do with out these, such as oatmeal, or try alternatives such as almond milk.
Snack on tropical fruit in-between meals.
Bloating is a very common issue that most of us face. Tropical fruit helps banish this by breaking down protein and easing digestion. So it’s a good idea to snack on a bowl of cut up fruit in between meals, like papaya, kiwi and pineapple.
Drink more water!
No, this is not an overrated statement! Drink more water!!!
This is the most undisputed way to detox and help flush your system of toxins. So keep a water bottle with you at all times and always fill up soon as it’s empty. And hey, those frequent bathroom visits will contribute to your 10 000 steps. Also getting into the habit of drinking 2 cups of water before every meal will help with digestion and keep the body hydrated.
Stay away from sweetened gum.
Chewing gum causes bloating by letting excess air pockets into your system. So it’s best to stay away if you are trying to take care of a bloated belly. It is not all bad though, it does have benefits for you dental health, so if you are going to swallow air, make sure the gum is at least sugar-free, as sweetened gum contains sugar alcohol.
Gym fanatics always say abs are made in the kitchen before they are made in the gym, so who are we to argue? These changes should lead to at the very least a flatter and more comfortable tummy.
