Change is good but change should not come at the cost of damaging your hair. You may choose to lean towards the natural colours or unleash the experimental side of you with a bright hair colour, what stays the same is that you need to take care of your colour treated hair without damaging it and making your new hair colour last longer. Here are some imperative tips to keep in mind when treating your chemically treated hair and to keep the colour for longer:
1. Wash your hair once a week using cold water
Hot water makes your hair dye bleed much faster and strips away essential oils from your hair leaving it dry and brittle. Steer away from hot water. Also washing your hair often washes out the dye from your hair.
2. Use a sulphate-free shampoo
We swear by this advice. Use shampoo less frequently and when you do decide to use it make sure that it is sulphate-free.
3. Stay away from the sun
Yes, the sun rays have the potential to fade out your new hair colour. Don’t spend too much time in the sun.
4. Use a light moisturiser
We highly recommend our new MPL Black castor oil as it helps with strengthening your hair leaving it soft and shiny. Apply it twice a week and your hair will not thin from the dye.
5. Stay away from chlorine in the pool
If you’re going to be in the pool, first wet your hair with cold water under the shower so that your dyed hair does not absorb the chlorine in the pool water. The chlorine damages the hair and washes away the intensity of the hair colour from the dye.
If you’re going to have dyed hair it’s very important that you take extra good care of it, we hope our five tips will come in handy on self-care days.
